Your shop bio is often the first thing a buyer reads after seeing your listings. It answers the question every buyer is asking: who made this, and can I trust them? A strong bio builds connection, communicates your values, and converts curious visitors into confident buyers. Here is how to write one that works.
Do not open your bio with your name or how long you have been crafting. Open with a clear, specific statement of what you sell and who buys it. Buyers need to know immediately that they are in the right place.
The second version tells the buyer what you sell and signals your values in two lines. It also self-selects the right audience โ people who care about quality and authenticity.
After your opening statement, give one or two sentences about how you got started. Not your entire life story โ just the moment or reason that brought you to making what you make. Buyers of handmade goods are specifically interested in the human behind the product. A brief, honest origin story creates connection and differentiates you from every mass-produced alternative.
What makes your work special? Do you source locally? Use recycled materials? Hand-pour every candle in small batches? Spend hours on each piece? Specifics are more convincing than adjectives. "Small batch" means more than "high quality." "Sterling silver and ethically sourced gemstones" means more than "premium materials."
Think about the questions first-time buyers might have before purchasing from an independent seller. Your bio is a good place to proactively answer them:
One or two sentences addressing these reduces hesitation and support messages before the sale.
Close your bio with an invitation. This can be as simple as "Browse the full collection below" or "Send me a message if you have questions โ I respond within a few hours." A call to action keeps the buyer moving toward a purchase rather than leaving the page.
Keep your bio between 100 and 250 words. Long enough to establish trust, short enough to be read. Use short paragraphs with one idea each. Avoid using your bio as a keyword dump โ write for people, not search engines. Save keyword optimization for your listing titles and tags.
